One of the projects currently underway with the Saskatchewan Aviation Historical Society is the restoration of a DHC-1B Chipmunk. First accepted into service in 1948, the Chipmunk served as a primary trainer in Canada, replacing the Fairchild Cornell, until 1972.

SkAHS currently has one airworthy Chipmunk, CF-OAA. Our second Chipmunk, CF-OBB will also wear the colours of the RCAF. CF-OBB started life as Chipmunk 18060, when it was taken on strength in August of 1956. 18060 served with the Primary Flying Training School at RCAF Station Centralia, Ontario before moving to CFB Borden, just prior to unification. In June of 1970, the aircraft was renumbered as 12060 and eventually served with 3 Canadian Forces Flying Training School (3 CFFTS) at CFB Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. After being stuck of strength with the CAF, the aircraft was bought by a private owner and given the civilian designation CF-BKN. The aircraft was eventually bought by TC Leasing of Saskatoon in 2001 with its current designation CF-OBB.
Current plans are to have CF-OBB airworthy and flying with the rest of the "Yellow Wings" aircraft that are currently part of SkAHS. With that, we hope to keep everyone up to date on where the restoration is, so stay tuned for more reports.
